A damning report by a Planning Inspector has told Cheshire East Council its long-awaited Local Plan is still not good enough to be adopted.
The blow, described as “regrettable” by council chiefs, was delivered by an inspector giving his “interim views” on the Plan’s soundness and legal compliance.
Nantwich residents can interrogate Cheshire East Council bosses on how robust they feel the new Local Plan is.
The Local Plan document sets out the council’s case for sustainable economic growth over the next 15 years.
Planning Minister Nick Boles has vowed to meet Nantwich and Crewe campaign groups fighting the loss of “Green Gap” areas. Mr Boles’ pledge comes after concerns of hundreds of residents were raised by local MP Edward Timpson.
Campaigners fighting to stop developers building on village land, took their battle to the streets of Nantwich. Members of Hands off Wistaston (HOW) held a street stall in the town square to highlight their fight to save Crewe and Nantwich “Green Gaps”.
Campaigners in Stapeley fighting plans for a new 1,100-home village, have called the Cheshire East Council draft development plan “helpful”. But they also question the weight of the report as they continue their fight to prevent Muller Property’s Nantwich South project.
Nantwich will be protected by new Green Belt land east and west of the town, and see 1,000 homes built near Reaseheath rather than Stapeley. That’s according to a draft Cheshire East Council strategy now ready for public consultation.
