Cheshire East is training up social workers to fill vacancies but some then hop over the border to Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire because they pay more, a councillor has said.
Like most local authorities, Cheshire East has to rely on agency staff because it can’t recruit enough social workers.
Cheshire Wildlife Trust is recruiting for six new positions as it aims to have one in four people taking action for nature’s recovery by 2030.
The Trust is looking to recruit people who can use skills to help community groups, schools, and businesses to do more for nature and wildlife in their area.
Cheshire East members have expressed concern about the number of council meetings being cancelled and asked whether this is because of staff vacancies, writes Belinda Ryan.
More than 20 committee meetings have been cancelled since January 2022, according to the council’s own online calendar.

The council declined to comment on what impact the vacancies are having on services.

Cheshire East Council has 75 full time vacancies it is struggling to fill at its Care4CE service provider at a time when pressure is mounting with more people needing care.
The council is ramping up its recruitment efforts but Jill Broomhall, operational director of adult social care at Cheshire East Council, said the private sector was struggling too, with lower paid staff leaving for higher paid jobs in other sectors and managers being head-hunted.
Fewer people in Crewe and Nantwich are out of work and claiming benefit, new figures show.
The number of claimants is currently 1,120 in the Nantwich and Crewe area – a drop of 91, or eight per cent, compared to 12 months ago.
