A developer has submitted plans to build six houses next to the site of the historic Walled Garden in Nantwich.
But councillors are calling for conditions on the proposals by 4 Real Developments Ltd to include restoring the listed wall and setting up a fund to maintain the site in future years.
Campaigners fighting to stop Nantwich’s Walled Garden being developed, have labelled the latest plans “cultural vandalism”.
A development company is bidding to repair the damaged Grade II Listed walls surrounding the Tudor gardens off Kings Lane, Welsh Row, and create vehicle access.
Would-be brides and grooms from Nantwich and South Cheshire are invited to a one-off wedding event this weekend. Sugnall Walled Garden, near Loggerheads in Staffordshire, is staging the event in its Indian Pavilion.
