Police and Royal British Legion in Cheshire have teamed up to restore forgotten resting places of veterans buried in cemeteries.

They also worked with the North West Probation Service on the project, which saw offenders serving community sentences given the task of cleaning war graves.

Nantwich Museum staff have launched an appeal to find out more information on a prisoner of war camp near Tarporley.

They want more information about Racecourse Camp 74, which housed World War II Prisoners of War, after it recently received a hand-crafted document box.

The book, called “A Horse, A Sword and A Rifle”, focuses on the fascinating lives and exploits of Joseph Dodd, his son-in-law Sydney Williams, and Sydney’s son John Williams.

Town stone to honour Nantwich Victoria Cross World War 1 hero

A Nantwich war hero who earned the Victoria Cross is to have a commemorative stone laid in his honour. Stanley Henry Boughey will be remembered in the town as part of the World War 1 centenary events in 2014.
