Nantwich Town’s first ever women’s team has been launched at the club’s Weaver Stadium.
And interest in the team has been strong, with experienced players coming forward to join.
A number of players visited the club on Saturday (July 6) to look around and meet key individuals including chairman Jon Gold and director Tony Davison.
Subject to league approval, the club hopes the women’s team will play in the second division of the Cheshire Women’s League.
Training is expected to start soon, with the team being managed by Adam Smallman.
Dame Patricia Bacon, the Women’s Team first President, said: “I am delighted to support this new initiative.
“This is a great club with top class leadership and I believe this is the final piece of the playing jigsaw.”
Saturday proved a busy day for the club with community teams in action on the 3G pitch with football development officer Steve Smithies, and supporters teaming up to spring clean the stadium ready for the start of the new season.
Anyone interested in playing, sponsoring or assisting with the women’s team, email [email protected] or call 01270 621771.
Meanwhile, the New Nantwich Town home kit is now in the club shop.
The kit, sponsored by County Insurance, will be worn for the first time in this Saturday’s friendly with Crewe Alexandra.
It will also be worn by junior teams throughout the season, as well as the new women’s team (pictured)
