Adam Jones of nantwich Town

Nantwich Town’s Adam Jones believes the team needs to be “more ruthless” when they are leading games.

Jones (pictured) netted a last ditch winner to beat Frickley 3-2 at the Weaver Stadium, capping a fine man of the match display.

But the centre back feels the Dabbers can improve and see games out more comfortably in future.

He was speaking as the team prepares for tonight’s (September 2) tricky away fixture at Stourbridge who are unbeaten at home this season.

Jones said: “To feel like that, to get the winner in the last minute makes it worthwhile.

“I felt like there was time [after going to 2-2] to get a winner.

“But we have spoken that when we are a goal or two goals up in a game that we need to be a bit more ruthless.

“We tried to be a bit more patient and keep the ball.

“We had them on the ropes, but we tried to consolidate a one goal lead, however, we need to try and get two or three or even four goals to kill teams off.”

Jones, who joined the Dabbers from FC United of Manchester in the summer, is hoping to give a lot more to Nantwich – starting at Stourbridge tonight.

“It’s a long trip and we have a few wounded in the dressing room,” he said.

“But we go again and we have got to go into every game wanting to collect three points.”

Nantwich Town manager Danny Johnson believes the way Nantwich took all three points at home to Frickley Athletic is the best way to win a football match.

But he was disappointed that the Dabbers had almost chucked all three points away.

“The supporters would like us to ideally win 4 or 5 nil.

“But when you win a game like that which was really hard fought. Having to come from behind, then having the sucker blow of them equalizing.

“That is magnificent, it is Roy of the Rovers stuff. But I don’t want too many of them. I would prefer us to win 5-0.

“I really thought when we got the goal and went 2-1 up, we really should have put them to the sword and had taken the game away from the opposition and we didn’t.

“I am really disappointed with that if I am honest. I said to the lads in the dressing room, you’re in control of the game but not going anywhere and we have still got to keep the tempo as high as we can and keep penetrating the opposition.”

Kick off at Stourbridge tonight is 7.45pm. They follow that with another long away trip this Saturday to Kings Lynn Town.
