A sporting academy for disabled people has been awarded £47,000 to buy a 14-seater minibus and provide a lifeline for the club.
The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts offers children, young people and adults opportunities in sport and the arts.
And when Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), visited, he urged the academy to bid for government funding from DCMS.
And last week Jane Whetnall, co-founder of the academy, found out they had been successful and was awarded £47,000.
This will pay for a new 14-seater minibus and disability equipment.
Jane said: “This new minibus and sports equipment couldn’t have come at a better time for the Cheshire Academy and will be a fantastic and vital asset.
“We’ve had the old minibus for around 10 years and it’s got more than 220,000 miles on the clock, which have taken our athletes from Inverness to Cornwall.
“Having a new one will also transform the work we do with pre-school children all the way through to the over 65s.
“I’m so pleased the Government has recognised the important work we do.”
Crewe & Nantwich MP Edward Timpson added: “Jane, Iain and their amazing young people at Cheshire Academy clearly left a massive impression on the Secretary of State for Sport.
“It’s great to be able to help them secure the minibus and equipment that I know that their hard work merits.
“It now means their gymnasts, athletes and budding sports players have a more secure future.”
Staff at the Cheshire Academy have experience of working with children, young people and adults with a range of physical, sensory and learning disabilities as well as those with Autistic Spectrum Condition and those with challenging behaviour.
Example activities include gymnastics, sports acrobatics, football, badminton, martial arts, youth clubs, boccia, bocce and new age kurling, preschool gymnastics, activities and play, music, dance and drama.
