new broomhall and sound community room

Villagers are being invited to celebrate the opening of the new-look Broomhall and Sound Community Centre near Nantwich.

The £125,000 project was put together to build an annexe to Broomhall and Sound Methodist Chapel, originally built in 1838.

The new building comprises a community room, entrance lobby, utility and store rooms together with new toilets meeting disability regulations.

Villagers hope it will provide a much-needed facility for residents living in the area.

And they aim to celebrate with a grand opening to coincide with the Broomhall and Sound Community Church Harvest Flower Festival, October 2-4.

Sue Sullivan, one of the villagers behind the project, said: “Once the community annexe is completed, it is hoped that a youth club will be set up and the local police support officer has expressed his desire to assist in this.

“In addition the local doctors’ medical centre has stated this additional accommodation would allow them to run mother and toddlers’ groups, carer support meetings, and so on.”

The £125,000 was raised thanks to grants from WREN (£49,389), Methodist Church Council (£40,000), Wrenbury Consolidated Charities (£750), Cheshire East Council (£3,000) and
Cheshire Community Foundation (£2,500).

The remaining amount was raised by the community through quiz nights, garden parties and flower festivals.

This year’s flower festival on Friday October 2 will run from 11am-7pm, and on Saturday October 3 from 11am-7pm with the official opening of the community annexe by Jill Barber (Vice Chair of Methodist Conference) at 3pm.

On Sunday October 4, there will be Harvest Festival Services at 10.45am and 6.30pm with the flower festival open 1pm-4pm. Admission to the festival is £3.

The current small chapel meeting room (below) is used for smaller activities such as Saturday morning coffee stop, summer club for young children, flower arranging classes, art classes, and a luncheon club.
