A Nantwich councillor’s birthday bash raised a staggering £3,000 for local causes.
Councillor Arthur Moran welcomed 270 guests to the Nantwich Civic Hall for a night of dance with Todd Miller and The Joe Loss Orchestra.
The event marked Cllr Moran’s 70th birthday – and he was keen to raise money for three charities he is passionate about.
The £3,000 will be distributed between Leighton Hospital Prostate Support, Ovarian Cancer and the Nantwich Mayor’s Charities.
Cllr Moran said: “This is a charity close to my heart.
“I’m delighted that friends have supported me and that we can raise money and awareness for this deserving organisation.
“I have been working with Todd and the band for over 20 years now and it seemed right that they should be who I chose for my birthday celebrations.
“I am delighted with the success of the evening.
“It was great to see all generations take to the dance floor. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their very generous donations.”
Gary Steele and Kevin Hammersley, from Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, met Cllr Moran to be presented with a cheque from the evening.
Win Bond, an active member of the support group, presented another cheque to the charity for £1,815 from a line dancing event she organised at Llandudno Queen’s Hotel.
The Prostate Support Group will be holding their annual PSA testing session at Nantwich Civic Hall on Saturday April 9 from 10am to 1pm.
Todd Miller and the orchestra will also return to the Civic Hall for another Charity Dance on Friday December 16, when Cllr Moran hopes to raise further funds for charity.
