Nantwich Mayor grilled by Pear Tree pupils

Nantwich Town Mayor David Marren was under the microscope as young pupils grilled him as part of their school project!

Cllr Marren was invited in to Pear Tree Primary in Stapeley to be interrogated by year one Orange Class as part of their “Super Stapeley, Super Me” project.

The Mayor, fully robed, explained the role of the Mayor and how the position dates back to Norman times before being subject to a barrage of questions facilitated by class teacher, Debbie Swallow.

Orange Class teacher Debbie explained why the Mayor had been invited and what the project was all about.

“We have been learning about our local area and what makes it ‘Super’.

“All the children really enjoyed learning about the important role that the mayor plays in our local community.

“They also learnt how to become a mayor – linking it into our recent work on democracy and about the running of a local council.

“The children were actively engaged in the session and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Cllr Marren.

“The children were extremely positive and respectful and I could not be prouder of them.”

Cllr Marren said: “As town Mayor I get invited to represent the town and speak on behalf of the town at many events.

“I’ve never been a Mystery reader before this year and I’ve been pleased to read to Red Class at Pear Tree recently, reception children at Shavington Primary a few months ago and year two children at Meir Heath Academy in Stoke on World book day, when of course they all dressed up.

“Being grilled by orange class was a bit different and more challenging because they were well prepared and so inquisitive.

“They were a beautiful class to work with and I was actually quite a bit saddened when my slot ran out of time, I probably enjoyed it more than they did.

“They were brilliant.”

Any schools wishing to invite the town Mayor in can do so by contacting Nantwich Town Council.
