A mystery donor from Nantwich has offered to pay for over-worked NHS staff to have their ironing done during the Coronavirus pandemic.
They contacted South Cheshire firm Golden Iron and said they wanted to ease the burden on health workers battling to save lives of those with the disease.
So they came up with the idea of paying for all their ironing so they can grab more rest time between shifts.
Golden Iron boss Andrea Houlton said she was moved by the gesture, and the that they were all too happy to help.
“It’s a customer who has offered to pay for the NHS staff ironing,” she said.
“And they have asked to remain anonymous. They just wanted to do something to help, and so do we.
“I’m putting aside one of my ironing ladies at the end of the week so these baskets from NHS staff aren’t coming into contact with others and she can do a thorough clean down after.
“I was going to pick up and collect but I think it’s a better idea for NHS staff to drop and collect at our ironer’s so as to minimise contact.
“It means the drivers and we won’t have to do a special clean down of the van for these days.
“It will mean I’m doing the work that the usual lady does if there’s an overflow at the end of the week.”
It’s the latest community spirit gesture shown by people towards NHS and emergency services workers who are working day and night during the pandemic.
“We thought, with losing some of our regular customers due to them now working from home, it probably wouldn’t impact me too much so we can do this,” Willaston-based Andrea added.
“But I ll have to play it all by ear with how many we take on.
“I guess we’ll all be on lockdown soon but as they’ll be able to still go out, they could still take it to her without our involvement.”
Supermarkets and local stores are offering “NHS staff only” shopping times to help them after emotional pleas to deter panic-buyers from clearing shop shelves.
Any local NHS staff keen to take up the offer can contact Andrea on [email protected] or call 07816895938.
