Crewe & Nantwich MP Edward Timpson has welcomed new figures showing 1,090 fewer people in Crewe and Nantwich are relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance since 2010.
He believes the 45 per cent drop shows the Conservative plan put in place after the 2008 crash is working.
The latest figures also show more people are in work across the North West, with over 79,000 more people in work since the last election.
Mr Timpson said: “Many more local people have a better and brighter future ahead of them and their families.
“As these figures show that plan is working. We need to stick to it.
“It’s the only way to keep the economy growing, and keep businesses creating jobs, so we keep moving towards our target for full employment, and more families get the security of a real job and a regular pay packet.”
Other statistics released today (August 18) show 74,000 businesses in the North West are benefiting from the Employment Allowance, introduced in April.
The Employment Allowance takes up to £2,000 off the National Insurance bill of every employer and is open to businesses, charities and community amateur sports clubs.
The allowance means a business could now hire someone on £22,400 a year without paying any employer national insurance at all.
“This tax cut makes it easier for businesses to take on new people, and it is great news for Crewe and Nantwich,” added Mr Timpson.
“We need to continue working through our plan, backing businesses to create jobs for people, with the regular pay packet and the peace of mind for the future that comes with it.”
