Second-half - Sean Cooke celebrates scoring the winning goal (1)

Nantwich Town returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 away victory at Cheshire rivals Witton Albion.

Sean Cooke’s strike 10 minutes from time was enough to bag all three points for the Dabbers.

After three losses in a row, Nantwich were keen to get back to winning ways in the Northern Premier Division.

Prince Haywood picked up an early yellow card in a first half of few chances.

On 26 minutes, Nantwich carved out their first real chance when Thommy hooked a cross in and Cooke headed straight at Hall in the Witton net.

Eight minutes they had another chance when Stair found Walsh who crossed for Cooke to head straight at Hall.

Just before the break, Witton’s Jawad Jebrin broke through and played in James Hooper who was prevented by a last ditch Haywood tackle.

Cooke for Nantwich and Hooper for Witton both had half chances after the break but could not test the keepers.

Then the Dabbers made the breakthrough on 82 minutes.

Stair played in Devine who fired in a low ball which caused chaos in the Witton defence and Cooke pounced to fire home.

Witton pressed in the final few minutes for a leveller but the Dabbers held firm to register a key victory against the league’s bottom club who are yet to win.

Nantwich have moved up to 10th in the league with nine points from their opening six matches.
