Cheshire East’s new £11 million car park makes just £110 a day

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council’s new £11 million multi-storey car park has cost the authority approximately £87,000 to operate – and brought in just £17,244 in parking income in its first six months.

In October, it was revealed the 395-space car park was bringing in just £75 a day in terms of income for the council.

Nearly an eighth of posts at Cheshire East Council are vacant as the cash-strapped authority tries to slash its wage bill to help balance its books.

Cheshire East is currently forecasting a £13 million overspend by the end of this financial year in March – but is still hoping to find a way to break even.

Cheshire East will have a greater say in decisions on HS2 construction and design after voting to become a ‘qualifying authority’.

The council is already a qualifying authority for phase 2a – the route between Birmingham and Crewe.

94% gain first choice secondary school places in Cheshire East

More than 94% of applicants have secured first choice secondary school places in Cheshire East, the authority has said.

It’s a rise of 0.5% on last year’s figure and nearly 11% better than the 2017 national average of 83.5%.
