The new Mayor of Nantwich Cllr John Lewis has been sworn in to office in front of town dignataries. Cllr Lewis took over the mayoral chain of office from Cllr Graham Fenton at a ceremony at Brookfield Hall, Nantwich.
Nantwich and District Band has issued a plea for more members to join the group. The band, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, needs players for a range of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, organisers say.
Nantwich Town Council is to hold a special consultation evening for the public on the Draft Nantwich Town Strategy. The strategy, part of the consultation process on the new Cheshire East Local Plan, gives people a chance to shape how Nantwich should grow up to the year 2030.
Nantwich residents were left disgruntled when a property firm proposing to build 270 homes failed to turn up to give a presentation. Around a dozen residents attended Nantwich Town Council expecting to hear from Gladman Developments on proposals for land off Marsh Lane.
Nantwich Town councillors voted overwhelmingly for a rise in council tax, which will see households pay an extra £67 a year. The council needs to bump up the precept by £360,000 in 2012-13 to help fund the takeover of key facilities like the Civic Hall, indoor market, toilets, allotments, and Brookfield Hall.
Volunteers working for the Nantwich Litter Group have been producing positive results for the town. Now the group, coordinated by Nantwich Town Cllr John Lewis, is appealing for more help to build on the progress being made.
Nantwich Town Council has agreed to take on the town’s Civic Centre and indoor and outdoor markets from April 2012. Town councillors also voted to take charge of public toilets in the market, on Barony Park and Snow Hill car park.
