Ambitious plans for Cheshire East Council to be carbon neutral by 2025 are unachievable and have now been pushed back to 2027.
The council made the 2025 commitment in May 2019 and the following year outlined how this would be achieved.

Cheshire East is unlikely to rake in the millions it forecast by introducing garden waste charges and the knock-on effects could impact the council’s carbon neutral target, the Tories claim.
Plans to introduce the charges were voted through as part of the budget in February.
More than 15,000 trees have been planted across Cheshire East in the latest planting season, says the authority.
The council has launched a planting scheme as part of its aim to become carbon neutral in its operations by 2025, and schools like Wrenbury Primary School are helping out.

Cheshire East Council chiefs have approved “one of the most ambitious” plans in the country centred on making Cheshire East carbon neutral by 2025.
The authority’s cabinet approved an environment strategy to respond to the ‘global threat’ posed by climate change at its virtual meeting yesterday (May 5).
