In 2021, ONS figures showed that 113,505 divorces were granted in England and Wales – an increase of 9.6% compared to 2020.
Census data released in 2023 also found that around half of all marriages will end in divorce.
Census 2021 results show Cheshire East’s population has risen by almost 30,000 since the previous survey in 2011.
In total, 98% of Cheshire East population completed the 2021 Census, higher than the 97% national average.
Cheshire East Council has praised residents for an “outstanding response” to this year’s Census held on March 21.
Despite the global pandemic, the response rate in Cheshire East has exceeded the national average, the authority has said.
