Councillor Craig Browne is to stand down as deputy leader of Cheshire East Council and as chair of the highways and transport committee in February, it was announced today.
Cllr Browne has made the decision after being offered the chief executive position with Citizen’s Advice North Staffordshire.

Cheshire Police have seized and destroyed six e-scooters ridden on public highways in Crewe – and warn they will do the same in all towns if parents buy them for children at Christmas.
Police and crime commissioner John Dwyer also urged residents to report their neighbours if they had the vehicles and were riding them illegally on public roads or pavements.

Residents are to be asked their views on plans to extend Cheshire East’s FlexiLink ‘dial-a-ride’ bus service so more people can use it and drive passenger numbers up.
FlexiLink offers a personalised, door-to-door service and operates in a similar way to a traditional ‘dial-a-ride’.

Residents in Cheshire East will be asked for views on the street light switch-off plans proposed by the council to save energy and costs.
The CEC highways and transport committee has voted unanimously to go out to consultation on the switch-off plan.
Frustrated residents in Nantwich feel they are being left in the dark over the progress of the A51 spine road at Reaseheath.

Cheshire East Council has secured more than £150,000 from the government to install electric vehicle charging points in its towns.
Work is expected to start on installing the infrastructure in towns across the borough within the next few months.
Elected members of Cheshire East Council will have more cash to spend on highways projects in their local wards next year.
Ward member budgets, introduced in 2021, will increase by 50% from £4,200 to £6,500.
Council chiefs say delays to the opening of the new A51 Reaseheath bypass are “beyond control of the council”.

A £5.799m government grant for potholes is welcome but “will not even begin to scratch the surface” of the £180m backlog of repair work, Cheshire East’s deputy leader said.
Cllr Craig Browne said Government funding to Cheshire East for road repairs has remained largely static over the last decade.
