More than 80,000 pensioners in Cheshire East are to lose their winter fuel allowance under the Labour government’s plans, the Conservatives have claimed.
The government announced from this year that only those in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits will get the annual payments, worth between £100 and £300.
South Cheshire Chamber bosses say they hope to work with new Crewe & Nantwich MP Connor Naismith to help the area “achieve its potential”.
Mr Naismith was elected as the new Labour MP for Crewe & Nantwich as his party secured a landslide general election victory on Thursday.
New Crewe & Nantwich Labour MP Connor Naismith says he intends to bring “hope” to his constituents after winning back the seat.

Labour kicked off its election campaign in Crewe and Nantwich by wheeling in one of the big guns as it fights to snatch back the seat from the Conservatives.
Shadow attorney general Emily Thornberry was in Crewe yesterday (Tuesday) to support local parliamentary candidate Connor Naismith, who is hoping to overturn a Conservative majority of 8,508.
