relegation battle - Toby Ward, Crewe & Nantwich RUFC, versus Leek

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC coach Andy Brown admitted they were beaten by a “better team” after the 1sts crashed to defeat at Leek.

The Vagrants side were humbled by the league leaders 29-0. It was only Crewe & Nantwich’s third defeat of the league campaign.

But Brown still takes heart from the performance, and believes Crewe can still bid for promotion.

“Unfortunately, we lost to the better team on the day but we cannot fault the effort and courage of our squad,” said Brown.

“We made too many errors and did not take our chances.

“But as a spectacle it was an exciting and quality match.

“Moseley Oak also lost to Bridgnorth, so we are still in business in terms of promotion.”

Youngsters from the club’s Under 8s side were invited along on match day  to act as mascots.

“They had a fantastic time and I am sure they will remember running out with 1st XV for many a year,” Brown added.

Crewe & Nantwich look to get their promotion charge back on track when they welcome fifth-placed Ludlow to the Vagrants this Saturday March 8, kick off 3pm.
