Nantwich Town’s pre-season preparations continued in good fashion with a fine 1-0 win against former league side Stockport County.
An Aaron Burns penalty in the second half was enough to secure the victory at the Weaver Stadium.
And on the balance of play, it was a deserved win for Danny Johnson’s new-look team which appears to be gelling nicely ahead of the new 2013-14 campaign.
The friendly was a tetchy affair at times, but Nantwich were strong in possession and showed glimpses of what they will be capable of in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
And after Burns stroked home his spot-kick on 58 minutes to put the hosts in front, they never looked under serious threat.
Johnson started with a similar line-up to the side that lost 4-1 against Crewe Alexandra last weekend, with Terry Smith, Russ Courtney, Danny Lambert, Ollie Devenney, Earl Davis, Tom Moore, Adam Carden (c), Mark Jones, Aaron Burns, Harry Clayton, Max Harrop.
Substitutes who made an impact included Chris Amadi, Carl Smith and PJ Hudson.
More than 300 supporters watched the match.
Nantwich now have two away pre-season matches, at Alsager Town this Tuesday July 23 (kick off 7.30pm), and at Airbus UK Broughton next Saturday July 27, kick off 3pm.
