A planning application for dozens of new houses in a busy village near Nantwich looks set to be refused.
The plans submitted for 40 homes to the rear of Eastern Road in Willaston by Richard Lee Ltd, have sparked objections from campaigners.
Willaston Parish Council and local Green Gap Action Group both lodged opposition, backed by Willaston and Rope ward councillor for Cheshire East, Brian Silvester (pictured).
Planners at Cheshire East Council have recommended the proposal be rejected by committee next week.
“It is in open countryside and the Green Gap where development should not be allowed,” said Cllr Silvester.
“Roads in Willaston, like Eastern Road, are congested and dangerous now at peak times. Parking their cars is already a nightmare for many Willaston residents.
“To have around another 80 cars a day added to the daily traffic movements could only lead to further highway congestion, more parking problems, add to the accident numbers and the pollution concerns.”
He also said more houses would mean children having to go to other schools.
“Willaston Primary School is already over subscribed and can’t take any more children,” he added.
“There is already a flooding problem after heavy rain in the village and this further development will add to the pressure on the capacity of the sewers.
“I am confident the committee will refuse the application but we cannot rest on our laurels because there is always the possibility of an appeal in the future.”
In a report, planners state: “It is considered that because the development would extend between the built form between Willaston and Rope, it is considered that it would represent the erosion of the physical gap between the built up areas.
“Furthermore, it would detrimentally affect the visual landscape of the area which is currently characterised by open paddock.”
A decision on the application is due to be made at a Southern Area Planning Board on October 16.
