Two former presenters on a community station in Nantwich are now making bigger waves in the radio industry.
James Peake and Emily Tate (pictured) began their radio careers at The Cat internet radio station, based off Beam Heath Way.
Now they are moving up the broadcasting ladder after landing key roles on two of the biggest commercial stations in the region.
James has been offered an assistant producer on the Signal 1 breakfast show in Stoke-on-Trent, which boasts around 200,000 listeners a week.
And Emily has landed a Global Academy internship at XFM in Manchester.
Chris Radford, of The Cat, said: “We are really pleased we have helped Emily and James take their next steps on hopefully successful broadcasting careers.
“This is one of our primary aims here at The Cat. In almost six years of providing community radio to Crewe and Nantwich, we are really proud we have given the area a voice and provided opportunities for many local people to get involved in truly local radio and beyond.”
The Cat has applied for a full-time FM licence after Ofcom made one available for the South Cheshire area.
The licence, which will be initially valid for five years, will allow a station to broadcast on the airwaves across Crewe, Nantwich and surrounding villages.
‘he Cat has previously held 28-day Restricted Service License broadcasts (RSLs) have been strongly supported by the local business sector and the community.
Edward Timpson, MP for Crewe and Nantwich, said: “The Cat caters brilliantly to the local community and my constituents, offering programming that appeal to their tastes and interests.”
Crewe-based Redshift Radio are also bidding for the full-time FM licence.
