Detectives are probing a “serious incident” on a footpath on Mill Island, Nantwich.
Officers have cordoned off parts of the island by the River Weaver following the incident.
The alleged incident happened shortly before 3am earlier today (December 20).
Police want to speak to two men seen in the area at the time.
The first is described as white, muscular, 5ft 6in, aged between 19 and 40, with short hair. He wore grey clothes and spoke in a local accent.
The second is white, 5ft 9in, slim, aged between 19 and 40, wearing a black tracksuit.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We are investigating an incident on a footpath on Mill Island which happened in the early hours of this morning.”
He said they were unable to disclose exact nature of the incident while investigations continue.
