Police are investigating after reports a man indecently exposed himself to children in broad daylight at Nantwich Lake.

The incident happened at around 3.45pm today (August 18.

A local family has reported that children were stopped on their bikes by a man who asked them questions while exposing himself.

It’s believed to have happened near the bridge at the end of the lake opposite the main car park.

Reports say the man turned away and walked down a small path.

Police were called to the scene and launched a search for the offender.

The man has been described as older white male ages 40-50, wearing a cap, denim shorts and a green jacket.

He had a short beard and did not speak with any obvious accent.

A member of the victim’s family said: “We are obviously upset and angry.

“This is just a reminder that this sort of thing can happy anywhere, but according to the Police this is a very rare occurrence.”

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “At 3.52pm on Sunday 18 August police received a report of a man exposing himself to a child at Nantwich Lake on Shrewbridge Road, Nantwich.

“The girl had been walking around the lake when she was approached by an unknown man who engaged in conversation with her while exposing himself. At no point did he touch her or make any sexual comments towards her.

“The man has been described as white and wearing a green jacket, denim shorts and a hat.”

Detective Inspector Claire Jesson said: “Officers attended to the scene where they spoke to the public nearby to see if they had seen the man. They then conducted an extensive search of the area but could not locate him.

“I want the public to know we take incidents of this nature extremely seriously and the girl did the right thing by informing an adult who then reported it us.

“If anyone has any information in relation to this incident and believe they may know who this man is, please contact us by calling 101 quoting IML 489326.”
