A young Nantwich Fire Cadet is hosting a curry night to help raise funds to build much-needed classrooms for schoolchildren in Nepal.
Ashleigh Culleton, 14, will be heading out to Nepal next year with a group of Cheshire Fire Cadets.
But first they need to raise £70,000 for the classroom project.
So the year nine pupil at Malbank School is holding a charity curry night at Basmati Restaurant on Pillory Street on October 23 and tickets are £15.
The evening starts at 6.30pm and is an all you can eat buffet, which includes a welcome drink.
There will also be a raffle with prizes from such places as Stapeley Tea Rooms and Enzo.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Youth Development Manager Vicky Wrest said: “The group needs to raise over £70,000 for the project, which will see classrooms built at an existing school in the Solukhumbu District in the Sagarmatha Zone of North-Eastern Nepal.
“Many children in this district work or take care of younger siblings or elderly relatives, so generally have no education.
“Working with the charity Classrooms in the Clouds the group of 17 cadets and nine leaders will raise the money themselves to fund the trip.
“This will pay for building of the classrooms, the groups flights, accommodation and any equipment needed to finish off the school before it’s handed over to the village during a celebratory ceremony.”
The group fly out from Manchester to Kathmandu in October 2020 before embarking on foot for a half day trek through the Himalayas, to get to the village.
They will be accompanied by a doctor from the United Kingdom and will meet Dawa Geljen Sherpa and his team of Sherpas who will accompany the group while they are in Nepal.
Tickets for the charity evening are available by calling Ashleigh’s mum Carly on 07856359627 or emailing her at [email protected]
