dog attack reaseheath way in nantwich

A dog was destroyed by police at a house in Nantwich after it attacked two officers.

Police said they were called to a home on Reaseheath Way, on Kingsbourne Estate, to “make enquiries in relation to a wanted person”.

The road into the Kingsbourne estate was closed at various times yesterday (January 24) as police dealt with the incident.

It’s believed two officers were bitten as they attempted to bring the dog under control with sedation.

Both officers needed hospital treatment.

A 33-year-old woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of having a dangerously out of control dog.

Detective Superintendent Adam Waller said: “This is a distressing incident, and officers did all they could to bring the dog under control.

“However, our priority is the safety of our officers and members of the public, and due to the immediate risk posed, the decision was made to destroy the dog.

“This was not a decision which was taken lightly.

“We would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident.”

It’s not clear what breed the dog was.

Irrespective of why the dog became violent, it’s good that it was destroyed because the owner was unable to prevent it injuring the officers. Dave Boult is clearly someone who knows what he’s talking about.

It’s almost certainly the fault of the owner, I have no criticism of the dog itself. Well-trained dogs are used by the Dog Sections of all UK police forces in all sorts of situations without any problems.

Nig – I’m not sure what you mean by “aggressive policing” but you’ve written enough to demonstrate that your view is less than objective.

  2. Nig you know absolutely nothing about dogs, I have a trained dog, he doesn’t bolt at the door in attack mode, the moment the bell rings he waits for my command in German, all top dog trainers communicate with their dogs in another language as to not let a possible intruder know what happens next. the dog will not attack until he has the signal, what I feel here is the home owner had not trained this dog, just opened a door without securing the dog in a cage or room and all hell broke loose. Trained animals are not trained for a week, they are trained daily, so until you know more than me about this incident only then you can consider not to make such puerile comments. There is more to this story you are not privy to

    Cobblers!

  4. Jean please stop with knee jerk reactions, that dog may have been defending it’s owner from aggressive policing and well train, there’s more than your side of point of view please consider it

  5. Anybody smell a rat here?

  6. If a dog is ever off lead in public it is a menace, and don’t start with saying he is harmless as many stupid owners now should realise their fur baby was once a wolf that’s why the wildlife on the lake looks worried, not to mention children and the elderly . They can be as unpredictable as toddlers, so pay your money and use a company that have secure fields to let off steam for the dog, if not then consider yourself a really bad criminal owner and a dreadful feckless resident of the town
