The public is being warned about high rivers and flooded roads and pavements as heavy rain is set to continue in South Cheshire over the next 24 hours.

An official Flood Warning – which states “immediate action is required” – is in place on River Weaver in Nantwich, as of 6.30pm tonight (June 12).

An Edwardian former orphanage described as a jewel in Crewe’s crown is set to be converted into retirement flats after standing empty for 12 years.

Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee has given the go-ahead for Grade II-listed Webb House in Victoria Avenue, to be transformed into 54 extra care apartments with a swimming pool and gym – subject to final design tweaks being approved by planning officers.
