Councillors have backed plans to axe around 10 externally run Antique and Artisan markets in Nantwich town centre.
The proposal would see the council stage more live music and children’s activities on the square in their place.
A Nantwich councillor told a police inspector that illegal drug activity in the town is “getting worse”.
Cllr Stuart Bostock said there were obvious areas where people gathered to deal or buy drugs around Nantwich.
Three men have been arrested by detectives in Crewe on suspicion of drug offences.
The men, aged 27, 29 and 44, were seen acting suspiciously in an alleyway on Flag Lane at around 3.30pm on Thursday (October 6).

Cheshire East Council chiefs have been using taxpayers money to maintain more than 500 green space plots of land which may be privately owned.
Director of environment and neighbourhood services Paul Bayley said the authority has been maintaining 547 parcels of land not registered as being owned by the council.
Cheshire East members have expressed concern about the number of council meetings being cancelled and asked whether this is because of staff vacancies, writes Belinda Ryan.
More than 20 committee meetings have been cancelled since January 2022, according to the council’s own online calendar.
A 11-year-old girl has been taken to hospital following a collision with a car on a busy Nantwich road.
The incident happened on Waterlode close to Nantwich Leisure Centre at around 3.30pm.
