Councillors have clashed over which party was responsible for the loss-making £11 million multi-storey car park with one seeking assurances a decision like that can never be made again.
The £11 million car park, which was funded by Cheshire East Council, made a loss of nearly £70,000 in its first six months of operation.

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council’s new £11 million multi-storey car park has cost the authority approximately £87,000 to operate – and brought in just £17,244 in parking income in its first six months.
In October, it was revealed the 395-space car park was bringing in just £75 a day in terms of income for the council.
Ambitious plans to turn a derelict piece of land next to River Weaver into a hotel, restaurants and apartments have been ditched in favour of a new car park.
Investors behind the “Vision for Nantwich” project had targeted the former derelict land off St Anne’s Lane for the initial scheme.

Cheshire East Council was forced to keep the town centre car park closed yesterday (Monday) after the exit shutters were vandalised over the weekend by yobs.

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council is closing its new £11 million multi-storey car park in Crewe on Sundays because it can’t afford operating costs seven days a week.
The 390-space town centre car park opened at the end of July, six months later than it should have done, after being plagued with problems during construction.
The new Crewe Bus Station has opened its doors today (May 7) following a two-year construction project.
The station’s facilities, covered by a CCTV system, include a fully-enclosed passenger waiting area with seating and 10 bus bays including one for coaches.
Plans have been submitted to build and open a new car wash and valeting service on land at Nantwich Town FC.
The site, which would employ six people, is for land at the junction of Waterlode and Reaseheath Way, to the south of the football club’s car park.

Cheshire East Council has no plans to introduce parking charges on the council-owned staff car park in Sandbach – meaning its workers will continue to park free if others are charged.
The cash-strapped council has consulted with residents on plans to introduce charges in “free-parking” towns like Sandbach and to revise charges – mainly upwards – in those which already pay such as Nantwich.

Plans to build a state-of-the art youth facility on a Crewe car park have been recommended for approval.
The two-storey building will house a sports hall, illuminated roof-top sports pitch (MUGA), changing and showering facilities, a café/coffee shop and kitchen and a range of meeting rooms and activity areas.
