80,000 pensioners in Cheshire East to lose winter fuel payment

More than 80,000 pensioners in Cheshire East are to lose their winter fuel allowance under the Labour government’s plans, the Conservatives have claimed.

The government announced from this year that only those in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits will get the annual payments, worth between £100 and £300.

On the BBC text site overnight, it was reported that Electricity cost 4p per unit more in North Wales, Cheshire and parts of Merseyside (the old MANWEB area).

In our area we pay 36p per unit, with 34p being an average and 32p in the lowest parts of the Country.

The scheme was set up by Cheshire East in April 2013 to support vulnerable people facing immediate hardship, following a crisis or disaster, to prevent homelessness, to keep families together and safeguard vulnerable people.
