Volunteers working for Nantwich Litter Group are back in action to help tidy up the town over the next two weeks. The group is staging two “picks” in various areas of the town, and is appealing for more people to get involved.
Nantwich Litter Group got the New Year underway with two successful group picks. Dozens of volunteers turned out for each event and collected scores of bags of litter filled for collection by Cheshire East’s Streetscape.
Nantwich Litter Group will start 2014 by tackling litter problems made worse by Christmas festivities and stormy weather. Two “Group Picks” are planned, the first this Saturday January 18 at 10am on the corner of Beam Street by the One Stop shop.
Nantwich Litter Group will be holding a public meeting in a bid to highlight issues affecting the town. The meeting will take place on Wednesday January 8 at Brookfield Hall, on Shrewbridge Road, Nantwich at 4pm.

Nantwich Litter Group is extending its reach to include a monthly “group pick” on the third Saturday of the month. The first of these “Saturday Picks” will be held this weekend October 19.
This was the haul of rubbish found dumped under a hedge by stunned Nantwich Litter Group volunteers. Fly-tippers left a pile of garbage including wood, carpet, pans and other items under the hedge where litter pickers uncovered it.
More than 20 Nantwich Litter Group volunteers targeted areas off Beam Street in their latest crackdown on the town’s litterbugs. Volunteers young and old covered a wide area off Beam Street from Manor Road to Volunteer Fields and routes in between.
Nantwich Litter Group has benefited from the Societies Spectacular event after recruiting new volunteers. Group members were encouraged by the public’s response to their stall which showed pictures featuring volunteers at work and typical litter problems.
Eighteen volunteers of Nantwich Litter Group blitzed rubbish in the Barony area of the town. Workers tidied Barony Park, Barony Road, Middlewich Road up to the A500 roundabout, and smaller nearby roads.
Nantwich Civic Society members were joined by volunteers for the town’s third annual Spring Clean. People from groups like Nantwich in Bloom, Nantwich Litter Group, Reaseheath College Horticultural Students and Barclays Bank Knutsford staff, took part.
Nantwich’s new “zero litter” campaign could be paying off, according to volunteer pickers. Organisers of Nantwich Litter Group’s latest “Group Pick” said they were heartened that there is “noticeably less” rubbish littering the streets.
