Roads around Nantwich were gridlocked for much of yesterday as the town’s Jazz Festival swung into its third day. A crash on the M6 motorway in the morning led to a closure between junctions 17 and 18 and thousands of vehicles using surrounding routes.
Hurricane-force winds are bringing chaos across South Cheshire with roads and railways blocked, buildings damaged, and “danger to life” warnings issued. Trees have blown over on several routes around Nantwich and Crewe station has been evacuated after part of the roof blew off.

An accident at a busy roundabout in Nantwich caused traffic chaos today (May 26). The incident involved a car towing a caravan and a motorcyclist at the Peacock roundabout in Willaston where the A500 meets the A534.
This is the scene of today’s massive blaze at Alvaston Business Park which has caused traffic chaos in and around Nantwich. Firefighters were called to the fire at Garratt’s scrap metal yard, off Middlewich Road, at about 6am this morning (Oct 7). The fire was found to involve a large quantity of scrap metal which is on the site.
