There are multiple reasons why CEC is on the verge of an S114 bankruptcy notice, one of which identified by the LGA, (but on which the Labour-Independent administration have been silent) – is that the Committee System is not working.

Cheshire East Council’s change from cabinet to committee has seen the end of a system which brought “ignominy to this council, with police investigations into some decisions”, a councillor said.
Councillors from all parties agreed the committee system, which replaced the cabinet system in May last year, had so far been successful.

Cheshire East councillors have approved controversial plans to charge the over 85s for a lifeline care alarm system they currently get for free.
At the moment residents who are over 85 and live alone do not pay for the assistive technology (Telecare service) they receive.
Cheshire East Council will hold its final meeting on May 4 before it changes from a Cabinet to committees system.
The authority’s Annual General Meeting will be held remotely on Tuesday 4 May, at 5pm.
