More than 100 guests celebrated the opening of a Nantwich businesswoman’s new hair training academy.

Helen Douglas’ academy has transformed a former beauty parlour on Nantwich Road, Crewe, into a trendy learning facility for budding young stylists.

The £100,000 facelift has seen the three-storey Victorian building kitted out with classrooms, a colouring room, barbers and downstairs hair salon open to the general public.

Helen, of Willaston, and business partner Jude Leytham, of Sandbach, welcomed friends from the hairdressing industry and business community to the launch.

Chris Foster, a celebrity in the hairdressing world and owner of the famous Foss Academy in London, performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Helen, who also owns Headquarters salon in Mill Street, Nantwich, said: “Some years ago I had a dream of opening a hairdressing finishing school where young people fresh from college can gain skills that will make them a success in the work place. And here it is.

“It’s been a huge undertaking, and a major investment, but already we have recruits on our books keen to get started.”

The academy, which has created five new jobs, will offer training in all manner of hair cutting, styling and colouring techniques as well as male grooming and barbering led by Chris Foster.

It will also offer special courses for people 25-plus, extra training for stylists working in existing salons and has Government funding to train jobless under 24 year-olds.
