Nordic walking event

Nantwich residents are being urged to try a new activity to get fit – Nordic Walking.

Taster sessions are being staged later this month and in July in a bid to persuade more people to get out during the summer.

The new fitness exercise involves walking with specially designed poles – similar to ski poles.

It is one of the fastest-growing fitness activities in the world and was originally used by cross-country skiers as a way to stay fit.

Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, using poles means all major muscles are exercised, burning up twice as many calories as normal walking.

Poles also reduce pressure on knees and joints and the gentle upper body movement can help ease back and neck pain.

Cheshire East Council is to staging a course at Queen’s Park in Crewe so people can learn correct techniques and results.

They are on June 22 (10.30-11.30), June 29 (1o.30am to midday) and July 6 (10.30-12.30pm)

You need to attend all three sessions to complete the course. Cost is £15 per person.

To book onto any of the Nordic Walking taster sessions or the technique courses please call Age UK Cheshire 01270 219487
