A man was found badly beaten in a street in Shavington, detectives say.
The 40-year-old was discovered with serious injuries to his head and body in Back Lane.
Police have arrested six men in connection with the incident which happened at around 8.20pm on Saturday (December 21).
The victim was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital where his condition has been described as stable.
Det Sgt Rob Balfour said: “We are trying to piece together the events that led up to this serious assault and are appealing to the community for help with our enquiries.
“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who spotted suspicious activity in the area of Flag Lane, Bridle Road and Wistaston Road at its junction with Flag Lane between the hours of 7.30pm and 9.30pm on 21 December.”
Three men from Crewe aged 38, 36 and 40, and three men from Liverpool aged 41, 26 and 22 were arrested in relation to the incident.
They have been bailed pending further inquiries.
