Pupils from Wyche Primary School in Nantwich are to have their imaginative posters displayed on country roads throughout Cheshire East.
Their designs won a competition to promote Cheshire East Council’s wildlife conservation policy.
The ‘Design a Sign’ competition received a big response and youngsters at Wyche School, along with some from Mobberley Primary, were declared the winners.
Cheshire East Deputy Leader Cllr David Brown and Chris Shields, service leader for Cheshire East Highways, were the judges.
Year Six pupils Leah Canvin and Alana Gauntlett were winners for Wyche Primary School, and Year Three pupil Euan McLachlan for Mobberley Primary.
The winners received copies of their sign to post in their school as well as packets of wildflower seeds to plant as part of the campaign.
Cllr Brown said: “All the entries were of a very impressive standard and we had some difficulty in picking an overall winner.
“There is an important message behind this – we need to ensure wildflowers and wildlife can flourish in the rural areas of Cheshire East.
“I congratulate our winners and all the schools that have taken the trouble to contribute to this important campaign.”
Cheshire East Highways is responsible for maintaining rural grass verges cut in a single 1.2 metre wide swathe from the roadside.
This is designed to allow some of the grass to grow long so wildflowers and insects, including bees, can flourish.
