South Cheshire man John Porter and his Mini have made the final of the 10th Meguiars Club Showcase.
It is a nationwide competition to find the UK’s most perfect classic cars.
John, from Crewe, is one of 14 finalists whose cars will be shown at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC, November 13-15.
The overall winner will be announced at the event by Mike Brewer, of Discovery Channel’s Wheeler Dealers.
John’s car is a Leyland Mini Clubman S – a rare Australian market variant which was never sold new in the UK.
John said: “A mate of mine saw it for sale online and showed me – I fell for it!
“It has a pump which pumps air into the manifold to aid emissions, a rare fitment.
“This car means more than most classic cars – it was my salvation after the death of my wife.”
Minis are in the blood for John. His father-in-law had one from new which he still owns.
“I’m pleased with how this one has turned out though, it’s even better than the family car,” he added.
“I’m over the moon to be in the Showcase as I never expected it.
“And at first I didn’t realise it was a competition! I’ve won by being there, to actually win would be unbelievable.”
The 2015 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show will be held November 13-15 at Birmingham’s NEC. Tickets are available in advance or at the box office.
