Nantwich Town notched one of their most significant victories this season, beating high-flying Buxton 1-0 at a misty Weaver Stadium.
The Dabbers matched the promotion chasers all the way in a tightly fought contest.
And it was Ryan Brooke (pictured) who decided the game, with a fine strike from the edge of the area in the 73rd minute.
Brooke took possession just outside the Buxton box, spun his marker and drilled in a left-footed effort leaving the keeper with no chance.
It was a disappointing first half in front of 255 fans, with Buxton edging it and going close with Jamie Green hitting the post.
But both teams sparked into life after the break, and Phil Parkinson’s men took the game to their high-flying visitors.
Theo Stair went close on 48 minutes, his deflected shot narrowly wide.
Moments later, Wayne Riley muscled his way onto a Stair cross only to head straight at the keeper.
New signing Joe Mwasile was proving a handful for the Buxton defence, and he set up Sean Cooke to fire just wide.
Then on 72 minutes, full-back Andy White made a darting run into the box and his shot was deflected for a corner.
From the corner, the ball fell to substitute Brooke who produced a moment of quality to give Nantwich the lead.
Matt Bell and Osebi Abadaki had chances late on to double the lead, and the defence held firm as Buxton pushed for a leveller.
Nantwich sit in ninth spot in the Evo-Stik Premier League, with 25 points from 14 games, and games in hand on many teams around them.
They travel to lowly Frickley Athletic this Saturday November 5, hoping a win will fire them closer to the promotion places.
