Private landlords face tougher penalties for poor housing in Cheshire East

Private sector landlords in Crewe and Nantwich are being warned of tough new penalties to crack down on poor housing standards.

Cheshire East Council has amended its housing enforcement policy to include new powers, which could see the most serious offenders banned from letting properties altogether or entered on to a national database of rogue landlords.

Nantwich twin town students tour the sites of Cheshire

Fourteen students from Crewe and Nantwich’s German twin town of Bischofsheim sampled one of the hottest weeks in decades during a summer school organised by Crewe and Nantwich Twinning Association (CANTA).

The students, aged from their teens to 70s, received formal English lessons each day as well as dedicated cultural and learning visits.

Nantwich college serves up scholarships for global farming adventures

Reaseheath College in Nantwich has helped two Cheshire farm workers embark on global adventures after awarding scholarships.

Lizzy Andow and Sam Walton have earned John Platt Travel Scholarships from the college and Cheshire Agricultural Society worth £2,000 to fund international research which will benefit Cheshire’s farming community.

Minshull Vernon couple Tony and Margaret Woods staged a fundraising event for a children’s hospice in memory of their granddaughter.

It took place at their Minshull Hill Cottage and featured a range of activities including a tombola, bric-a-brac, books, home bake and a grand raffle. Refreshments were also available.

Staff and volunteers were shocked to discover the raid thought to have happened overnight Friday-Saturday July 27-28.

Five teenagers quizzed over Nantwich town centre vandalism

Police have confirmed five teenagers have been traced and questioned over vandalism to Nantwich town centre flowers and planters.

One boy and four girls – aged between 14 and 16 – were traced after officers reviewed CCTV images of the damage caused in the town square and Pepper Street.

Wrenbury dads raise thousands with Coast to Coast bike ride

Four dads from Wrenbury have raised thousands of pounds for Wingate Children’s Centre after cycling the iconic ‘Coast to Coast’ route from Workington in Cumbria to Sunderland.

Tom Robinson, Oliver Caunce, Josh Walker and Scott Heirene, plus support driver Scott Caunce, took on the gruelling challenge which saw them pedal through the Lake District National Park.
