Wistaston Scout Group (35th South West Cheshire) produced a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives in war and conflict, writes Jonathan White.
The group put together an impressive vertical display of poppies, made of plastic bottle ends painted red to resemble poppies, with the Union Flag flying on top.
The display is accompanied by a pair of silhouetted soldiers.
The display also commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, often referred to as D-Day.
The display is located outside their new Scout Centre, in Bluebell Wood, off Elm Drive, Wistaston. The display can be viewed until mid-November and is floodlit in the evening.
John Bennett, Group Scout Leader – Wistaston Scout Group (35th South West Cheshire), said: “Earlier this year the children in the group planted a large quantity of poppy seeds within the scout compound and locations around Bluebell Wood and Joey the Swan recreation area identified by Wistaston Parish Council.
“This was part of the Scout Programme to educate the children of the significance of the poppy in relation to the loss of life in two world wars and other conflicts.
“Leaders in the group having seen other examples of “Ribbons of Poppies” decided to create one at the Scout Centre as part of the Armistice Day events.
“Every member of the group, young and old has in some way been involved in this project the result is there for all to see and is a brilliant piece of work.
“Special thanks go to Tom Austin, Tony Rowland and Keith Sarson member of our leader’s team.”
Wistaston Scout Group started in 1958 and currently has 130 young people and 30 leaders and helpers.
