An attempt to build 112 homes to fund the renovation of the Doddington country estate near Nantwich has been rejected following fierce opposition from neighbours.

Lady Rona Delves Broughton, who owns the Doddington Estate, wanted to build 112 homes across 12 smaller plots of land to fill a £9.6 million funding gap for the renovation of her estate – which has planning permission to become a hotel, and is on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register in parts.

Nantwich twin town students tour the sites of Cheshire

Fourteen students from Crewe and Nantwich’s German twin town of Bischofsheim sampled one of the hottest weeks in decades during a summer school organised by Crewe and Nantwich Twinning Association (CANTA).

The students, aged from their teens to 70s, received formal English lessons each day as well as dedicated cultural and learning visits.

A Labour member is calling on Cheshire East Council to make sure it has a voice if gas firms apply to frack on the borough’s land.

Cllr Nick Mannion, member for Macclesfield West and Ivy, told Thursday’s full council meeting that CEC should challenge the Government over its policy to make decisions on fracking sites that go against the wishes of both communities and local planning authorities.
