Cheshire East Council will step up its efforts to hire a new chief executive this week.

A special meeting of the council’s staffing committee will take place on Friday to approve a new job description for the role.

A Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Crewe & Nantwich has called on Cheshire East Council to use a Court Injunction to prevent further unauthorised encampments on Barony Park.

Conservative candidate Dr Kieran Mullan says many other UK authorities use injunctions, which would see traveller groups removed on the same day they arrive.

A Nantwich town councillor expelled by his own Conservative party for comments over the Barony Park travellers issue, says he will appeal the decision.

Cllr David Marren was suspended initially over his comments which laid the blame at the former Cheshire East Council Conservative ruling party for a lack of action over securing the park.

Planning officers are again calling on councillors to reject Aldi’s plans for a new Crewe store despite more than 3,000 people signing a petition to support it.

The retailer is closing its supermarket at the Grand Junction retail park next year and wants to build the new 1,801sq m store off University Way as a state-of-the-art replacement.

Borough chiefs are being urged to have a ‘plan B’ for Cheshire East’s economy in case the next prime minister pulls the plug on HS2.

Cheshire East Council is currently working on an economic strategy for the next five years – setting out an ambition to create 6,200 jobs and grow the local economy by at least £15.9 billion per year.
