Family urge ambulance re-think over Nantwich rapid response volunteer

The family of a boy whose life was saved by the rapid response of a Nantwich volunteer medic has urged ambulance chiefs to reverse their decision to stop him driving to emergencies on blue lights.

Emergency medical technician Gavin Palin took just minutes, driving through the busy Nantwich traffic, to get to three-year-old Matthew Anderson who had suffered a cardiac arrest in a town centre shop.

Ambulance chiefs have stopped an experienced volunteer life-saving medic in Nantwich from driving to emergencies on blue lights, sparking fears the time delay could cost lives.

Gavin Palin has been with the ambulance service in Nantwich for 23 years and has responded to life-threatening calls, such as cardiac arrests, on blue lights in the area for the past two decades.

A former Nantwich pub looks set to be converted into a funeral directors with a self-contained flat above.

The Rifleman on James Hall Street closed earlier this year after the landlords announced they had to call time on the pub because it was no longer financially viable.

A gang of youths, some as young as 14, launched a horrific attack on a young man in Nantwich after he had asked them to stop throwing stones.

The 20-strong gang turned on their 23-year-old victim outside 1st Stop in Beam Street, knocking him to the ground and kicking and punching him.
