Plan for 20 homes near Shavington bypass set for go ahead

A plan to build 20 homes on land close to the A500 Shavington Bypass have been recommended for approval.

The site, next to the historic Crotia Mill Farm off David Whitby Way, is part of a wider outline planning permission for a mixed use residential and commercial development, including up to 325 homes, which was approved in December 2016.

Nine members of the southern planning committee voted to turn down the application on land south of Monks Lane and west of Chester Road, and one abstained.

Jubilant Bunbury residents clapped and cheered as Cheshire East Council refused plans to “cram” up to 25 entry-level homes onto a field in the village.

Nearly 50 villagers packed into the council chamber at Crewe for southern planning meeting to oppose plans by Roger Ryder to demolish a house on Bunbury Lane and build affordable homes on the site.

Cheshire East planners have recommended approval for up to 25 entry-level homes on a Bunbury site where permission for 15 homes was refused less than two years ago.

In July 2021 the southern planning committee turned down an application from Roger Ryder to demolish a house called Parkside, on Bunbury Lane, and build 15 homes on the land.

Cheshire East says the Homes for Ukraine Scheme has been successful but some refugees have been re-matched with new sponsors because of failed safeguarding checks or relationship breakdowns.

Dan Coyne, operational lead at Cheshire East for the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, said the council had so far inspected 139 of the 204 homes offered in the borough.
