Three Cheshire Police “Safety Buses” often seen in Nantwich town centre on busy nights, have helped more than 6,600 people in the last 18 months.
The buses are part of the force’s Safer Streets initiative aimed at improving safety for women and girls.
Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer has secured £1.5 million from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund.
With match funding, it could see a total of £2.5 million for safety buses, a new app and educational programmes in schools across the county.

It’s the joint-highest award in the country and is part of the third round of the Safer Streets Fund.
