A South Cheshire group campaigning for more sustainable transport, has welcomed Cheshire East Council’s plans to boost cycling and walking facilities.
Ben Wye, who runs Active Crewe Travel, said there needs to be a commitment to improving measures for safer, more comfortable and more convenient facilities for walking and cycling.
Cheshire East Council’s new leader has appointed a “cycling and walking champion” in a bid to get more people more active.
Cllr Sam Corcoran has appointed Independent Councillor Suzie Akers Smith to the post.
Communities in Nantwich and Crewe are being invited to apply for grants aimed at promoting walking and cycling.
Town and parish councils, charities and voluntary organisations can apply to Cheshire East Council for up to £9,999 in funding.
Council bosses will review plans to scrap school transport and force some Nantwich pupils to walk to school.
Cheshire East had passed a motion to axe free school buses on five routes, including Willaston to Malbank and Brine Leas schools in Nantwich.
