Youngsters enjoying Nantwich Food and Drink Festival

Organisers of Nantwich Food and Drink Festival have paid tribute to everyone involved in making it another massive success.

Thousands of people poured into the town over the three-day festival, which boasted 140 outside traders and 280 events.

The entire event was funded by local South Cheshire businesses who donate funds, including Mornflake , Bentley, Delmar and Magenta Moon and the festival bookings.

Festival committee chairman Deborah Robb said: “Initial feedback is that the festival was busier than last year, particularly the Sunday.

“The new food hall Magenta Marketplace was popular as was the Mornflake Oat Gourmet Food Hall.

“People we spoke to said they had spent more, in the shops as well as the food halls.

“So I hope the local traders noticed that. We will email them to try to find out over the next week or so. However there was a lot that was free so families could come.

“All the local hotels and B and Bs were full, and I spoke to people from Gloucester, London, Sheffield, Doncaster, Manchester!

“We noticed that people came on more than one day and we had a lot of families.

“We kept being asked when next year’s is! We  have it the same weekend in 2014.”

The festival was also only possible thanks to hundreds of volunteers who gave up their time.

“Our volunteers were amazing,” Deborah added.

“None of them are paid everything is done for charity and more than a dozen charities including local ones Nantwich Foodbank, Wingate Centre, Macmillan Nurses, Scouts and St Luke’s Hospice, benefit from the food festival.

“We know thousands of pounds was raised by them during the festival as people generously gave in appreciation of it being a free festival.”
