A car which crashed and set on fire was causing major tailbacks in Nantwich.
The incident happened on Newcastle Road just off the Cheerbrook roundabout at around 4pm today (September 16)
It’s not clear whether the vehicle, a maroon-coloured MPV, had come off the road before setting on fire.
Witnesses say they saw flames and smoke and the car badly damaged, with windows smashed.
It’s believed the occupants of the vehicle managed to escape unhurt, although this has not been confirmed by emergency services.
Police closed off Newcastle Road at the exit off Cheerbrook roundabout, causing tailbacks on the A500 coming towards Nantwich.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue crews from Nantwich attended to put the blaze out.
They wore two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
The thermal imaging camera was then used to check the fire had been fully put out.

Crappy Renault what a surprise.
Certainly, when we drove past the vehicle, it appeared that the occupants had managed to escape unhurt, as they were standing alongside the car. Hopefully, when the vehicle caught fire, they were a safe distance away.
